PCAT®
“PHARMACY COLLEGE ADMISSION TEST”

DESCRIPTION OF THE REAL PCAT®

The PCAT® (Pharmacy College Admission Test) is a test from the “Psychological Corporation” required for admission to pharmacy schools and colleges which follow standards from the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy.

The PCAT® consists of five (5) sections: Verbal Ability, which measures knowledge of general vocabulary using antonyms and analogies (approximately 50 questions); Quantitative Ability, which measures mathematical processes and the ability to reason and understand quantitative concepts and relationships using exercises with applications in algebra (approximately 65 questions); Biology, which measures knowledge of the concepts and basic principles of biology with an emphasis on human biology (approximately 50 questions); Chemistry, which measures knowledge of the concepts and basic principals of inorganic and organic chemistry (approximately 60 questions); Reading Comprehension, which measures the ability to understand, analyze, and interpret scientific theme passages (approximately 45 questions). It also contains an experimental section that does not affect the test score.

The scores of the PCAT® Test are based on the sum of the correct answers. The raw scores are converted to standardized points which range from 100 to 300 points, with an average of 200 points, equal to a percentile of 50 on the test. Each pharmacy school will interpret the results of the test according to their standards.
